A VISION FOR A COMPREHENSIVE ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM IN THE TREASURE VALLEY  

   Valley Regional Transit has updated its plan for a regional public transportation system in the Treasure Valley. The updated plan is called valleyconnect. 
   The purpose of valleyconnect is to establish a vision of the comprehensive alternative transportation needed, given the growth growth projections and regional and local land use and road plans. The plan will serve as a guide to the region as individual components are implemented to ensure that each piece builds logically towards the complete system.

RIDESHARE TO BOGUS BASIN SERVICE IS BACK

   Valley Regional Transit (VRT) recently launched a new experimental carpool program to Bogus Basin. It’s called “Rideshare to Bogus.”  Beyond the benefits of fewer cars on Bogus Basin Road and less air pollution, carpooling to Bogus can free up more parking space at Bogus, and it might be a way for people to meet new friends to ski/ride with.

   The Rideshare to Bogus web site provides three ways for people to find new friends to car-pool with:
   » A Rideshare board web site that’s customized for skiers, snowboarders and Nordic enthusiasts. It’s free. Post the need for a ride on a particular date or post a date when you’re driving and looking for riders.
  » A Rideshare to Bogus Facebook page. Post the need for a ride or that you’re looking for riders on the FB page. 
  » Rideshare to Bogus Yahoo Group. Post the need for a ride or that you’re looking for riders on the Yahoo Group page.

 MULTIMODAL CENTER TO BE BUILT IN DOWNTOWN BOISE

   Following careful consideration of two downtown sites, Valley Regional Transit has reaffirmed that Site H (the west half of the city block bordered by Idaho, 11th, Bannock and 10th) is the preferred site for the downtown Boise multimodal center (read the press release).
   The multimodal transportation center will be a central downtown hub for ValleyRide buses and other future modes of transit. It will have space to stage buses and other future modes of transit. It will have space to stage buses, taxicabs and Commuteride (vanpool) vehicles. It will also offer lockers for bicycle storage.
   The existing ValleyRide dowtntown transit center, built in 1990, is located along a four-block plus area along Main and Idaho Streets. It is lacking in services - i.e. there are no customer service offices and bathrooms (for drivers and passengers). The walking distance when transferring from one bus route to another at the existing transit mall can be as long as two blocks.
   The multimodal center also would be able to accommodate future growth of the ValleyRide system - which may include additional bus lines, bus rapid transit, and rail.

ABOUT VRT

   Valley Regional Transit (VRT) is the regional public transportation authority for Ada and Canyon counties in southwest Idaho. Its main responsibilities are to coordinate transit services in the two-county area and develop and implement a regional public transportation system.
   VRT owns the public bus system that provides service in Boise/Garden City, and contracts with a private firm to manage its operations. VRT also contracts for transit services in Nampa/Caldwell and between Ada County and Canyon County. All of these bus services are operated under the name ValleyRide.
   This website provides information about VRT's history, the oversight provided by the VRT Board and committees, past and ongoing studies, projects and reports. It also has press releases, newsletters, employment opportunies and procurements.
