Valley Regional Transit (VRT) is the regional public transportation authority for Ada and Canyon counties in southwest Idaho. Its main responsibilities are to coordinate transit services in the two-county area and develop and implement a regional public transportation system.

PROPOSED VALLEYRIDE SERVICE REDUCTION

Four open houses/public hearings have been scheduled to provide information about a proposed reduction in ValleyRide bus service and to gather comment. The proposed reduction would impact Nampa/Caldwell fixed-line and intercounty service. Here is the meeting schedule (the open houses are scheduled for 5-7 p.m. and the public hearings will begin at 7 p.m.):

  • Thursday, July 22: City Council Chambers, Nampa City Hall, 411 3rd St. S in Nampa
  • Tuesday, July 27: Conference Room A, Meridian City Hall, 33 E. Broadway in Meridian
  • Wednesday, July 28: Old Trolley Station, Middleton, 310 E. Main St. in Middleton
  • Thursday, July 29: Community Room, Caldwell Police Department, 110 S. 5th Ave.

    If you cannot attend any of the open houses/public hearings, but want your voice heard, you have other options:

  • Call customer service RideLine at 345-RIDE (7433).
  • Send your comments via fax (208-846-8564) or regular mail (VRT, attn: Mark Carnopis, 830 N. Main St., Ste. 230, Meridian, ID 83713). 

Public comments will be accepted through Sunday, August 8. The VRT Board is expected to make a final decision on service reductions at its August 18 meeting.

VRT owns the public bus system that provides service in Boise/Garden City, and contracts with a private firm to manage its operations. VRT also contracts for transit services in Nampa/Caldwell and between Ada County and Canyon County. All of these bus services are operated under the name ValleyRide.

The Valley Regional Transit's (VRT) mission is to move people throughout the Treasure Valley by coordinating and providing effective, efficient and convenient public transportation services consistent with our resources.


A GROWTH PLAN FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN THE  TREASURE VALLEY

The Valley Regional Transit Board of Directors has approve six-year plan to develop a regional public transportation system in the Treasure Valley.
    The plan, called Treasure Valley in Transit, would provide bus services to all cities in Ada and Canyon counties, and begin the groundwork to develop a high-capacity transit corridor between Ada and Canyon counties.
